Eyes On The Prize
Objective:
The goal of this project is to capture the beauty of eyes. Whether they be human or animal, the eye can tell you a lot about the soul of its character. Take 3 pictures of different types of portrait work with eyes and capture the feelings that they evoke and the beauty that they hold.
Assignment Details:
Exploration:
Take a stroll around campus and corner a student and take pictures of their eyes (close-ups will work best) or take your camera home and capture the eyes of your dog or cat. Just find something with eyes (person or animal) and incorporate their eyes into photo portrait to capture their harmony.
Photography:
Students should focus on close up portraiture for this project. Stopping a subject and focusing on either one eye or two to capture a beautiful picture encapsulating the beauty behind how we see. Switch up the photos perspective whether they be from a side profile angle or straight on to the eyes. 3 different photos with 3 different subjects is the requirement.
Editing and Composition:
Adjusting light can help enhance reflections present in the eyes which might be a cool thing to see. Enhancing shadows could deepen the pupil and the iris color can he heightened by shifting tones. Keep the pictures looking like real eyes so no major post processing edits, but if you feel something needs to be fixed then feel free.
Submission:
Upload your pictures to the media gallery and title them yourname.eyes.2024 and put them in your portfolio. This assignment should be given about a week to do. I would like a presentation for pictures the following week with detailed explanations on who the subject is and how the photographer got the picture.
Tools Needed:
You will need your camera and access to some sort of editing software if necessary.
Additional Notes:
• Safety: Ask for consent for taking pictures of individuals and respect privacy as these picture require you to get up close and personal with the eyes of the individuals.
• Mindfulness: If wandering campus do not disrupt classrooms to find willing participants. Be mindful of surroundings and do not be disrespectful or disruptive.
Final Notes:
This project is meant to be fun so do not stress about it to hard. Just capture some eyeballs and be ready to tell a story about them. Good luck on this adventure and be reminded that the eyes are the window into the soul when capturing these beautiful pictures.
