Selection of the Tree:

When selecting my tree, I chose the tree in front of the library. This specific tree I had photographed in the past, last year I had taken it’s photo in the Spring Time during “Love Week”. During Spring it is especially beautiful as it blooms its flowers. The flowers are the only thing on the tree standing out from the branches. While currently it still has most of its leaves, since it is shedding its leaves now that fall is coming. Due to this and previously watching the tree I decided to use it for this project.

Observations Over Time:

Throughout the time I had watched over my tree, I had seen it change colors, dropping its leaves slowly. The surrounding trees and flowers had mostly wilted and fell. Only the leaves of the bushes remain while both the flowers and the Tree lose their leaves to the coldness of Fall. When the changes occurred one of the other things that changed was the weather, the sunlight was brighter one day then dimmer the next week. The leaves looked duller, some people moving in the background when I took my photo.

Technical Experience:

When maintaining the consistency of my photos it made me remember which exact settings I needed, the same position and relatively the same time as well. Being around 11:15, but at times it wouldn’t be exactly the same time nor the exact same spot when I took the original photo.

When taking my photos at times there would be different environmental factors that influence my photos, with different amounts of sunlight.

Personal Growth & Learning:

In this Project it has influenced my understanding of the little details that matter. The subtle changes of time that needed patience to see. As it is hard to see this is normal life going about your day not noticing these things that are noticeable when slowing down and looking at the little things.

This assignment helps me be more patient when taking photos, as some things may not change the way you want them to. No matter how hard you try, some things will take their natural course in the outside world where you don’t have control.

Emotional & Creative Response:

Throughout the course of this project I had grown a connection with my Tree. Already having a prior connection to it. This project had helped me see it shed its leaves and lose parts of itself in preparation for its conservation. Now waiting for spring to come and help it bloom for another season.

My Photographs tell a story of change and transformation. It helps show a story of slow change. Some people might think of themselves like their tree, slowly changing and blooming again.

Final Thoughts:

The Most Rewarding part of this assignment is seeing things change. Things you wouldn’t take notice until it’s drastic. This assignment has helped me see the little things in nature that most would also ignore because it’s an “ugly” change once winter comes.
