The Process

It’s important to have a plan for these kinds of projects, as I kind of just went into it head on. I did have an idea of what I wanted my photos and page spread to look like, but I definitely could’ve gathered a more organized approach. In the end I felt as if the process was definitely rushed, and it could’ve gone better. I had to flex around the time that would’ve been best for both my teacher and I, which was in her classroom. The project was also due later than I thought it would’ve been, so that played a role in the way my photos came out as well. I had to work with what I had, and tried my best to get a feel of her personality through my photos. With the setting being a classroom, it was hard to get a little creative but I tried my best. I now know for next time that I need to branch out more in the creativity department, as the photos came out a bit more basic than I had intended.

Overcoming a Challenge

I feel as if there were definitely missed opportunities, as I could have taken more time to better humanize my teacher, such as tagging along with her to a Zumba class, something beyond just her classroom. I also struggle with major anxiety, especially when it comes to socializing, so that was definitely a huge hurdle I had to face. These struggles usually have an effect on the quality of my photos, as I tend to stay back rather than get closer to people/where I am visible. I’ve been doing photography for three years now, and yet this shyness still gets the best of me. This kind of job is definitely a struggle for those who have anxiety such as I do, but I would say to just try your best to get out there as much as you can, even if it is by little steps at a time. I’m a little disappointed in myself for how my photos came out, as I was intimidated by the others around me, possibly watching me, in the classroom at the time. From this, I’ve learned that I’ll try my hardest next time to get a little out of my comfort zone, to not pay any mind to those around me, and really get the kinds of photos that I want.

Favorite Image Spotlight

I really like the photo I took of my teacher wearing a brain hat that’s made out of paper, specifically in monochrome. I feel as if it really captures the essence of psychology, highlighting the fun activities that come out of the class. I remember getting to make one myself, invested in learning about the function behind different parts of the brain, all the while getting to draw and color. I hope that it encourages others to join psychology! 🙂
