I didn’t know what teacher I was going to pick and even when I finally decided on the teacher, I didn’t want to make the teacher feel weird about me asking “Hey can I take some photos of you and share them to a bunch of other people?”. Not like I actually said that but I was nervous I could weird them out about the whole thing. Once I decided on the teacher, I talked to him in class a little bit and sent him emails about my plan for this. I took pictures in my own class and took pictures in his 3rd period class as well in order to catch him doing different things like writing notes and helping students. I’m proud of the lighting on most of the photos, I had a hard time trying to figure out the right settings but I eventually got it. Also I was disappointed because I got some good photos that were sadly just out of focus. I tried to fix them but unfortunately couldn’t and I had to cut them out of the final page draft. I missed a lot of good opportunities for pictures too because I didn’t want to catch him off guard and throw off his work flow. Out of all the challenges I faced, probably focusing pictures was really the only thing that stressed me out. My camera did not want to cooperate but when it did, pictures turned out okay. I should’ve taken some pictures real quick of random things to test out the camera and to focus it but unfortunately, I didn’t. I will definitely be doing that next time. Some things I learned was to not be scared about taking pictures because I missed a lot of good shots. But once I got comfortable taking pictures, I got some good ones.

Reflection Post https://redwood.photography/2024/12/19/reflection-post-2/ https://redwood.photography/2024/12/19/reflection-post-2/#respond Thu, 19 Dec 2024 05:46:37 +0000 https://redwood.photography/?p=16447 Starting Out: More Than Just Clicking A Button

Joining photography, I just expected to learn how to take pictures and make them look good. But, getting deeper into the semester, I realized there was more than just fixing the lighting and the taking the picture. I learned you had to learn how to tell a story within the picture. You can’t just snap a picture of the most random thing and hope for the best.

Mastering Composition: Less is More

Composition was hard for me and it still is. I wouldn’t say I’m a master at it, but I’m good enough at it to get a good soft lighting on someones face rather than it look like the light is blinding them. Taking pictures in low lit places was a challenge but I slowly overcame that struggle.

Seeing the World Differently

I used to walk by photo oppurtunities all the time. But now, I take pictures whenever I get the chance with the perfect amount of lighting. Even if I don’t have my camera, I take out my phone and still try to follow the same rules as I would on a camera like the rule of thirds.

Favorite Work: Small Ideas, Big Vision

If I had to choose my favorite picture from this semester, I would choose one of the bubble ones. It was so fun to take pictures of so many bubbles at a time and try to capture them at the perfect moment before they pop right before your eyes. I loved seeing all the different bubbles go in all different directions and having to chase them just to capture a quick snap of them.

Looking Ahead: Telling More Stories

This class taught me so many things that I never knew mattered. Like when taking a picture, always look for eyes. Especially for sport pictures look for eyes and a ball. Seeing people get so excited to see their photo I took of them is just so heart warming. Their reactions are always better too. I hope to learn so much more from this class and I cannot wait to see what next semester will bring.
