For my liminal Spaces assignment, I was able to capture a few pictures to create the feeling of a lonely environment. One of the photos being a table across the cafeteria. The table was quite dirty with leftover stains of ketchup and dirt. The table’s layers of paint were also peeling and chipping really bad. I took a photo of this table because of how the table’s paint was peeling it looked like it was an abandoned table. Which was great when trying to create a photo of the emptiness. Another photo I added to this gallery was a photo of a person even though it doesn’t really line up with the assignment of liminal space. I added it because I really liked how the bit of light lined up nicely on the hat and it was also dark so it created an empty feeling. One thing I had a hard time with was trying to find the right settings to create the right feeling for the assignment.

For my M mode assignment, I captured photos of mostly flowers and bees. With adding both aperture and shutter speed to create both a dark and bright feeling I was able to take a couple of photos. With the photo of the bright yellow flower, I found it easy to use the aperture as the background was really blurred out and only the flower was in focus. I also found it easier to take photos of flowers because they don’t really move or go anywhere. The only thing I had a hard time with was remembering how to create a photo that made a dark/lonely feeling. As for creating a bright feeling, it was easier to create with just having to mess with the shutter speed.

I also had to stand a little still for it to focus on the specific subject you are trying to take a picture of because sometimes when I was trying to take a picture of something it would try to focus on the background.

Shutter Speed Reflection – Jennifer Z. https://redwood.photography/2023/09/07/shutter-speed-reflection-jennifer-z/ https://redwood.photography/2023/09/07/shutter-speed-reflection-jennifer-z/#respond Thu, 07 Sep 2023 18:34:07 +0000 https://redwood.photography/?p=5264 Something I had struggled with when trying to take blurry photos was the photos coming out darker or too bright depending on whether I was standing in the sun or shade. Also including the shutter speed. It was also important to not move much when the camera was set at a slower shutter speed.
